Dental Crowns - Restorative Dentistry

Dental crowns are also commonly known as caps (because a crown sits over your existing tooth covering the entire outer surface). Dental crowns are restorations that protect heavily filled, damaged, cracked or broken down teeth. A crown strengthens your existing, damaged tooth so as to preserve its function and cosmetics. Root filled teeth are often crowned to protect the tooth from fracturing. There are several crown options which our dentists will explain to you.

The traditional process of producing and fitting a crown compromises two appointments set two weeks apart. The first appointment lasts about one hour. In this appointment the dentist will prepare the underlying tooth for the crown and take various impressions of the teeth. These impressions will be sent to the dental technician who will be able to fabricate the crown bespoke to the individual patient, mouth and tooth. In the mean time a provisional crown is cemented onto the prepared tooth to hold the space. The second appointment lasts about 25 minutes. This is where the crown is fitted.

A full estimate will be provided prior to the start of treatment.
