Despite the very strong layer of enamel, teeth can still suffer cracks, fractures and chips. This can sometimes be painful especially if it is a deep fracture. A rough tooth can sometimes rub against the cheek or tongue causing discomfort. Small fractures can be repaired using composite filling material (tooth coloured material) which bonds to the tooth. Larger fractures may require a crown to further protect and support the tooth.
